How do I know I’m getting fair price for my gold jewelry?

I notice many people are selling scrap, but I have intact heavy chains, bracelets, a diamond
wedding ring. What is a fair appraisal? I live in Wheaton, IL

You need to start reading about gold. 10 karat jewelry has 40% gold. YOu can put it on a scale and then go to coingallery.com ( i don’t work for them and it is free to use) and click on Buy/Sell Prices. Gold is around $1,500 an ounce. This is nearly pure gold. But it gives you an idea of what yours is worth.

Go to 2 or 3 jewelry stores. They are the most-likely to buy gold. They pay more than what a pawn shop would pay. They are going to re-sell it off to be melted so you won’t get any value for attractive jewelry. They will test the gold for purity. This is where you have to trust them if you don’t know the “karat”.
