Great Blue Sapphire Rings

The colour of the sapphire varies from blue, to lilac, to purple. However blue sapphires with less then 15% purple colouring are said to be of greater quality, and therefore more expensive. Found in Burma, Thailand, sir lanka and North America, they are known as fancy sapphires. They colours vary from blue, as mentioned to pink, purple, yellow. Green gems are known as emeralds and red gem are known as rubies. Over mining in areas such as India has meant a reduction in product, and a rise in value. Sapphires in their natural form are very rare indeed, and very expensive. One such gem is the star of Bombay, found in the natural history museum in New York City. These precious gems are predominately heat treated; this will change the colour, and overall look of the sapphire. Heat treatment or artificial enhancement of any kind will affect the monetary value of the gem. If you are looking for an alternative to the diamond engagement ring this is a perfect choise.This ring has romantic overtones.
It was bought by royalty, any fans of the late great princess Diana, will know it was her ring of choice. This type ring was a best seller in the jewellery stores in the 1980’s.
