Quad cut or solid stone diamond?
I lost my wedding ring about a year ago. So now I am looking to get a new and more expensive one. I am having a hard time deciding in whether I want a quad cut princess diamond or a solid stone. The one I found and really like is a quad cut and it is so “bling bling”. But still thinking I would like to have a nice 1 carat or so diamond. Which is better?
Quad settings have a larger chance of losing a diamond if you knock your ring and loosen a prong. Since they’re held in by each other, if one gets loose, they all get loose. When I worked at a jewelry store, we have women come in quite often so had either lost a stone or who had knocked their ring hard and loosened the prongs which in turn made the stones loose. I wouldn’t suggest one of those rings but they are cheaper because they’re 4 stones making up one larger stone, so yes in that way you can get more bling. They also aren’t as easy to clean, since you have to get in between all for diamonds, it’s not easy unless you’re always taking it in and having them steam it.
My suggestion is to not get a quad or tension set ring and go try them on as well. You may not like the way they look in person or on your hand. I’d stick with a one single stone.
I have a tension set right hand ring I purchased when I worked at a jewelry store and I’ve accidentally knocked it pretty hard and lost a stone…good thing I took it in and had them replace it but it was still horrible. Mine isn’t a quad setting, it’s two rows of diamonds held in by each other (invisibly set is the same was quad set). Lets just say that right there turned me off of those types of settings…even if only side diamonds.
